  11. <p>The 60th MAW replaced the 1501st Air Transport Wing at Travis AFB in January 1966, operating the C-124C, C-130E, C-133A/B and C-141A. The former two types were transferred to other commands when the wing completed transition to the C-141, while the C-133 was retired when replaced by the C-5A beginning in 1971. The unit changed designation to 60th Airlift Wing in September 1991, and to the 60th Air Mobility Wing in October 1994. The unit gained two squadrons of KC-10As beginning in 1994 to become the West Coast air mobility gateway.
